If no one hears the music being played, does it exist?

I spend hours upon hours creating and recording music. I'd like to consider myself fairly good at it and I do, however narcissist it may sound, enjoy my own music. It does pretty much all I want from music since no one but myself is creating it - and it just so happens to be influenced by my favorite musicians!

However much I may enjoy and feel good about my music I can't help but to think of the fact that it probably never will be recognized or enjoyed by anyone outside my closest friends and my family. In this time and era of easy and cheap recording, alongside with internet-based self-publishing, one is due to drown in the noice of others promoting their stuff.

The fact that I'm spending time, money and even writing this text - IN ENGLISH!!! - sometimes baffles me. Why do I do this? Does my music get a higher status if heard by others? Is me expressing myself in music a matter of being social and recognized? If no one hears the music being played, does it exist? This brings me onwards in this text:

If I had no means of expressing music to an audience, would I still be creating music?

What are your thoughts on the subject? Write in the comments below! And thanks for reading.
